Moonlighters All Star Challenge
All CAQG members are invited to participate in an All Star Challenge for Fall Fest 2024. The challenge as well as Fall Fest are hosted by Moonlighters. Date, time, and place of Fall Fest are TBA, but the challenge can be started at any time.
Challenge Rules and Requirements:
(1) All Star challenge quilts should have stars as an identifiable design element.
(2) Techniques can include piecing, applique, painting, embellishment, and others; the challenge can also be met using a fabric printed with stars.
(3) All Star challenge quilts do not have to contain 100 percent stars, but stars should be readily noticeable.
(4) Stars can be any shape the the viewer can recognize as a star.
(5) The term "star" should be taken literally, not metaphorically. For example, your dog may be a "star" to you, but a portrait of your dog does not work...unless the dog is wearing stars.
(6) No single side of the quilt should be smaller than 12", and no single side should be larger than 24".
(7) The challenge is for quilts, not bags, boxes, dolls, and other fun items.
(8) The quilts will be hung temporarily by pinning pieces of Velcro to the back of the quilt. Consider this requirement when choosing the shape, weight, and finishing techniques. A sleeve and label are not required,.
(9) Makers are responsible for bringing their quilts to Fall Fest and taking them home that day. Makers can enlist a friend to help with this.
There are no other rules. This challenge is intended as a fun project that will give us all something to look at and talk about at Fall Fest.

CAQG President's Challenge 2024
The Guild is starting off a new year with a challenge from the Guild president. In the spirit of the New Year, make a list (preferably before the end of January) of 10 Quilt Resolutions. Your resolutions could be about cleaning up some UFOs or spreading your creative wings and trying something new. So, your list can contain one or more…
* UFOs – works in progress (including some sewing, cutting, or just fabric and pattern matched),
* kits that were purchased but never started,
* specific fabric that was being saved for “something,”
* patterns purchased with good intentions,
* new organizing system for scraps, fabrics, notions, etc.,
* techniques you always wanted to try but never seemed to find time to do, or
* quilt-adjacent projects (bag, 3D animal, crochet, knit, or other fiber creation).
Number your list, 1-10, and on the first of each month from February to November, we’ll announce a random number to focus you on a specific resolution (feel free to renumber as we go, if you need to finish something for the quilt show!). If you’re truly inspired, finish your project, but the intent of the challenge is to get you to make progress on 10 different creative projects over the course of the year. Progress on a UFO can mean anything between completing it to moving it on to a new home. Trying something new can also mean you find something that’s NOT for you in the future. Think about the verbs you use..."start, try, finish, decide, explore, attend, visit." So many things can be a quilt resolution!
If you are part of the private CAQG Show & Tell Facebook group (if you want to join, reach out to Melinda Smith – [email protected]), post photos and let us know how you’re doing (#PrezChallenge24). If you’re a chapter member, be sure to bring items to chapter meetings to share. We also hope to see your progress at Spring and Fall Fest Show & Tells.
This is not a competition, it is a challenge. The only one keeping score is you. Feel free to adjust your list as the year progresses (and hopefully you do, as well). In early December, we’ll ask for all of you who met the challenge – made progress on all 10 items – to enter a drawing for a prize. That’s right! There’s yet another incentive to work on 10 resolutions over the course of 2024.
